Quest Studios Lossless Recordings in FLAC format

The files below are FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) recordings from real hardware.

The intent of this project is to produce complete lossless archives of MIDI soundtracks from Quest Studios, with emphasis placed on using the original hardware for which a given title's soundtrack was composed.

Early Sierra soundtracks were composed for the Roland MT-32 (Multi-Timbre 32), so my initial focus will be on capturing those. I'll look for volunteers at the MIDI Music Adventures forums to record soundtracks composed for the Roland Sound Canvas.

The Colonel's Bequest Ken Allen Aug 2020, Marten @ MIDI Music Adventures 458 MB
  • Presented as a play that progresses as you explore, there is only a single point in the entire game where Laura (your character) can control the outcome of events.
  • The use of Ravel's Boléro is an anachronism, as it had not yet been composed in 1925.
Silpheed MECHANO Associates Aug 2020, Marten @ MIDI Music Adventures 224 MB
  • Silpheed (PC) was ported from the NEC PC-88 version. One audio track was cut: Silf of Wind II. Silf of Wind I was substituted in its place, resulting in some levels repeating the same music back-to-back.
  • There are three official titles in the Silpheed series, and certain details have changed between them:
    • PC-88/PC - Fighter: SA-08 / When: Sometime after 3032
    • SegaCD - Fighter: SA-77 / When: 3076
    • Playstation2 - Fighter: SA-77 / When: 31 years after the Xacalite Civil War

  • Later in the game, you can aquire more powerful swords with a longer reach, so you can strike enemies earlier.
  • The MS-DOS version is much easier than the original PC-88 version, as documented by Zeliard (DOS) at The Cutting Room Floor
  • The MS-DOS version changed several animations and altered the appearances of Princess Felishika and the Demon King Jashiin.
  • Many of the names in Zeliard are Spanish, except where misspelled; e.g. "Satono" should be "Sotano", as noted at Zeliard Translations
